Jamie Cary

Owner & Practice Manager
Jamie received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech, where he met Dr. Cary – the woman he decided to spend the rest of his life with, and with whom he shares the love of their furry family members. He practiced Architecture for 12 years before this team decided to open a veterinary practice together, where she would focus on optimal animal care and he would handle the business side of things and general maintenance of the facility. Jamie worked in the veterinary field for 3 years to prepare himself for the transition, including answering the phones to assisting in surgery, and everything in between. He also has many years experience in animal behavior and training – while Dr. Cary was in Veterinary School in Texas, Jamie spent all of his free time training Search and Rescue dogs.

Ariel

Veterinary Assistant
Ariel has been living in the Smyrna area since 2009 but was born and raised in New York.  Ariel has always had a deep love for animals, especially dogs.  Ariel is currently studying online to become a registered veterinary technician (RVT), as she sees herself working with animals for the rest of her life.  When she’s not at work, Ariel enjoys hitting the gym 4 times a week, running, hiking, paddle boarding and tubing in the summer, and trying new restaurants in the city.  Ariel’s companion to some of these activities is her 5-year-old cattle dog named Sunset, who’s always up for a car ride, and a game of fetch.

Barbara

Client Care Representative
Barbara has lived in Cobb County, Georgia all of her life, and, although Cobb County has changed, nothing has changed about her lifelong love of animals. She has always had dogs and cats and wanted to be a veterinarian as a young girl. After 22 years in engineering, she went back to her first love. She has found that working with clients and their pets to offer the very best care possible is her life mission. In her spare time she works with local rescues, takes care of her own pet family; Taffy the Cairn Terrier, Piper the chihuahua, and King the long haired chihuahua as well as Monet, her 23 year old lady cat. She loves gardening, travel, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Becca

Veterinary Assistant
Becca has always had a passion for animals ever since she was a young kid. While others were out building forts, Becca was in the woods and creek beds searching for animals to observe and study, her favorite being all the misunderstood creepy crawlies. She tells her husband that she will not be satisfied until she has her own zoo. In her free time, Becca enjoys playing card games and going to see the Braves play!

Darlene

Veterinary Assistant
Darlene grew up bringing home strays and eventually adopting a baby squirrel at 11 years old. She always knew that veterinary medicine would be the perfect route for her. She is currently a college student on her path to becoming a veterinarian. She feels that there is just something about helping an injured animal that brings a warmth to her heart. She enjoys watching pets grow with their families, but most importantly educating their owners on proper care for their pets for a healthy life together. When not helping animals, you can catch Darlene running or exploring more of Georgia with her husband and her dogs or relaxing at home with their cats. Darlene likes to say “I am still surrounded by animals every day, how much better can that get?”

Hailey

Veterinary Assistant

Hailey and her husband moved to Georgia in April 2023 from Lexington, KY where she graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BS in Animal Science.  Hailey has always had a passion for animals, but did not realize that veterinary medicine was the career path for her until she was a junior in college.  Shortly after that she got a job as a veterinary assistant and has loved caring for animals ever since.  In her free time, she enjoys baking and spending time with her two Great Danes, Rudy and Rosie.

Jillian

Veterinary Assistant
Jillian was born and raised in Marietta, GA. She has been an animal lover ever since she was a young girl. After graduating high school, she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do for a career. Since she loved animals so much, she thought about working at an animal clinic. She was offered a job as a veterinary assist in 2016. It didn’t take her long to realize that she loved what she was doing. She likes to spend her free time working out and hanging out with her two Goldendoodles, Marley & Willow and her cat, Mia.

Kari

Veterinary Assistant
Kari was born and raised in Fulton County, GA, where she grew up around many animals.  She has had a passion for all animals since she was a kid.  During her middle school years, she volunteered at a local pet supply store in the adoption area frequently.  She loved taking care of them and getting to see them find their forever homes.  She hopes to one day become a veterinarian so she can help others and keep their pets healthy.  She currently has two senior feline queens named Cutiepie and Star.  She also has a bearded dragon named Kimchi.

Kim

Veterinary Assistant
Kim’s initiation to the veterinary field began when she was still in high school. She started working in the kennel area of a local hospital, quickly discovered her passion for animals, and made veterinary medicine her chosen career. Kim enjoys spending all of her free time with her children.

Mary

Veterinary Assistant
Mary was born and raised in Maryland and moved to Georgia in 2018. Mary graduated Mount Olive College in North Carolina with a degree in Biology, in 2013. Soon after graduating she knew that her career needed to include helping animals. Mary has learned the basics of the animal care industry by working at a boarding/doggie daycare facility, veterinary hospital and in shelter medicine and wants to continue expanding her knowledge in the field. Mary currently has 2 Australian Cattle Dogs and a Dutch Shepherd mix who keep her active when she is not working.

Sheena

Veterinary Assistant
Sheena began her veterinary career at a feline only practice where she worked for 10 years before she joined the Team at Apex in 2017. Her passion is for the older kitties, but she loves all cats and dogs and strives to make the lives of these pets and their guardians as harmonious as possible. She has a creative side that loves frequenting thrift stores and constructing “vertical spaces for cats”. Google this term and see how awesome these spaces can be! Her 3 cats, Boyfriend, Betty, and Chevy Chase, love these spaces, and her dog Scrappy is happy to claim the floor as his own!
